atrium

Designed to support visual arts, digital arts, art history, music theory, applied music, and theater arts, the facility provides flexible, technology-infused performance and multimedia exhibition venues.

Inspired by the multiple relationships between creator, performer, and audience, the design organizes the expansive facility into two intersecting wings or axes. The axis of Performance, whose distinct theater venues arise from a simple rectilinear mass, intersects the axis of Creation, defined by intimately scaled, open studios arrayed along a curved transparent glass bar. A dramatic atrium glows like a jewel box, welcoming visitors to the rich experience of live performance.
